Proper prep is imperative for a long lasting mani! Ensure the cuticle is fully removed from the nail plate along with all traces of dust and debris. Wipe over each nail with an IPA solution to ensure the nail is completely free from any oils or dust before the application of any gel product.

If your client is prone to lifting, consider buffing the nail with a 100/180 sponge buffer instead of the usual 240 grit buffing block. This is not a full etching of the nail plate it is a light buff to remove the shine of the natural nail and will provide a slightly more rough surface for the gel product to adhere to. Pay particular attention buffing the sides of the nail.

All our gel colour products require a base gel to ensure proper adhesion to the nail plate. If you are using our HEMA free collection, including the FLEX & BOOST builder gels, then the Superbond Base Coat will be your go-to base coat for this system.

If you are using gel colour from our main range, then our Base Coat, Rubber Base Coat or one of our BUILD & BOOST products can be used as a base coat for gel colour.

Our BUILD & BOOST builder gel does not require a base or primer before application and can be applied directly to a fully prepped natural nail.

However, if you have clients who have particularly weak nails or who have a very hands-on job, you might like to consider applying a Rubber Base Coat before the application of BUILD & BOOST to help with adhesion. This is not needed for every client, just those who experience lifting regularly.

We recommend thoroughly shaking and gently stirring each bottle of product before application. If the product has been sitting on the salon shelf for a while then the formula may require a stir to ensure it is fully mixed and ready to go.

All of our products have been tested professionally by our manufacturers with the SunUV range of lamps. Our products must not be cured with any other lamp as the necessary tests have not been carried out to ensure correct curing.

Aftercare is just as important for a long lasting mani as the prep and application. Encouraging your client to use cuticle oil daily will help to increase the life of the service. It is also important to advise your client to protect their nails from harsh chemicals such as cleaning products and particular skincare such as retinoids and active acids as these can lead to the drying of the nail plate and skin around the nail, particularly on the one or two fingers used to apply the skincare.
